1. Describe a nucleotide. Be able to label and distinguish the three basic components.
2. Describe the nitrogenous bases. Names, number of rings, and hydrogen bonds that form between them.
3. Composition of eukaryotic chromosomes. (chromatin).
4. Describe the events of DNA replication.
5. Explain Transcription.
6. Role of DNA and ARN polymerase.
7. How are properties of protein determined? Explain the genetic code.
8. Describe the three types of RNA, (roles in protein synthesis). Be able to describe and label Figure 12-18 p 304.
9. Compare and Contrast DNA and RNA. similitude, three basic differences and roles.
10.Describe the two kinds of mutation. How are mutation beneficial? Describe examples of beneficial mutations.
11. Describe the four types of chromosomal mutation. explain each Figure 12-21 p 308.
Concepts (or functions) : rRNA, rRNA, mRNA, codon, promoter, mutations, operon, operator, hox gene, histones, bacteriophage, radioactive isotopes (markers).
